The beauty of these Veggie Cups is that you can use anything that’s leftover in your fridge. The only ingredient you need to have on hand is the actual gem squash. Buy a bag, steam and leave in the fridge to use each day. It will last you all week. The gem squash helps to bind the mixture together.
Edgars is the last place on the planet that I would have thought to look at for trendy baby clothes. So when I discovered their insanely huge kid’s section (it took me over an hour to work my way through it), I had literal heart palpitations. My shopping addiction kicked in and now #babyjake is the proud owner of some seriously cool tees. For seriously reasonable prices.
#babyjake’s Trend Tip: Roll up and fold the sleeves (as I have done in some of the pics below). Then iron the fold in place. Gives the tshirt a much cooler edge 🙂
The only packing list you will ever need. Plus tips for long distance flights. At the outset, I openly admit that this list is ludicrous. Absurd. Complete over kill. And I am embarrassed that I even own half of this stuff.
But just in case your flight gets delayed, diverted and you land up in some place where no parents have ever before stepped foot, with no supermarkets or pharmacies in sight for a 1000 km radius, then hey, this list will come in handy.
The amount of stuff you choose to pack will also depend on the type of holiday you are going on. If you’re going somewhere remote and want the convenience of not having to think about a single thing (and you have the space to pack it all)… then go for it.
OK moms, are you sitting down? I am so super excited to share this recipe with you, because I think I have finally discovered the world’s easiest superfood breakfast. I know that I’m continuously punting how easy and fuss-free the recipes on this blog are, but this one takes the cake (the fact that it also tastes like cake is pretty cool too).
A couple moms have been emailing me and asking for new breakfast idea inspiration. And so here it is. A pudding like bowl of creamy, coconut goodness.
As with all aspects of modern parenting, gadgets and accessories are part and parcel of the journey. So here are my top picks for Must-Have-Pram-Accessories to pimp your baby’s ride.
And the best part: these aren’t just gimmicks – they all serve a rather extraordinary, life changing purpose.
Plus! I’m giving away a “Pimp your Pram” hamper filled with all these goodies 🙂 Entry details below.
Hummus is one of those things I always assumed was super-fattening, hard to make and never, ever would’ve thought to give it as a baby food. But it’s so freaking obvious?! Creamy texture. Simple to make. And ingredients that are wholesome, nutritious and a source of protein.
Why give Hummus to your baby?
Hummus (when homemade) is essentially a terrific smooth, creamy and relatively bland “puree” that is a source of protein (together with a long list of vitamins and minerals that your baby’s body needs).
The other day I tried out a Green Smoothie on #babyjake and it was a raging success. He loved it! But I was left with a blender full of Green Juice. So I poured myself a glass, and proceeded to vomit in my mouth (the last time I consumed that many veggies in one mouthful was when I crash dieted for my matric dance).
I would however strongly advise you to try and force down a glassful… it’s good for everything from your hair to your skin (and waistline too). Plus it will certainly give you the much needed energy required to run after a toddler all day long.
So alas, what did I do with the leftovers?
Before you panic and think that I’m one of those intimidating Super-Humans who kickstart each morning with a Green Smoothie, think again. I’ll leave the Smoothie Drinking to the really, really ridiculously good looking “I went to Bikram Yoga followed by Sweat 1000 before my Morning Run” type of people. Wish that was me. But it’s never happening (maybe some lightbulb will eventually spark and I’ll start treating my own body with the same respect I show #babyjake’s. Until then though, he’ll eat his kale, and I’ll enjoy my Coco Pops).
Ok… so it turns out babies LOVE the Green Stuff. Not something you would ordinarily think to give to your kid. But it makes so much sense! In one serving, they’ll be gulping down broccoli, spinach, kale, celery & cucumber! What mom doesn’t want her kid eating that?!
I like knowing that #babyjake’s eating enough of the different nutrient dense foods. But I often fall short in the “Dark Leafy Greens” category. But this here Green Smoothie recipe takes care of that!
Following the success of #babyjake’s Purple Oats, I’ve got a new favourite breakfast on the menu – Quinoa Porridge! I’m loving Quinoa for #babyjake because it’s a good source of protein (especially when mixed with yoghurt & seeds), which means his breakfast packs a powerful protein punch without me even having to think about it.
This is so ridiculously easy and simple to make that there is no reason to not give this a try! You cannot begin to comprehend the nutritional powerhouse that this breakfast contains – one study even stated, “While no single food can supply all the essential life sustaining nutrients, Quinoa comes as close as any other in the plant or animal kingdom”. Now that is HUGE!
Before you guys freak out and think that I’m some sort of Martha Stewart Kitchen Goddess who makes geometrically-circumferenced-spinach-pancakes afresh each and every morning before the rising of the sun, think again.
What you see in the picture above was painstakingly created with a cookie cutter for the sole purpose of taking what appears to be the perfect foodie picture #neveragain
Moment of confession: Here (image below) is what the real-life version looks like:
